"CancerSmash" gives you the power to kill invading cancer cells before they reach the healthy cells.
NOTE: PARTS OF THE VIDEO ARE BLURRED OUT TO PROTECT THE PRIVACY OF THE PLAYER.
THE COMPANY: A biologics company.
PROJECT TYPE: Wii-like game based on gesture-recognition technology.
THE PREMISE: Design a Wii-like game using gesture-recognition technology to demonstrate to non-scientists how the company's new drug attacks and destroys cancer cells in the body. (Part of the screen is blurred to respect the privacy and identity of the player.)
THE EXPERIENCE: Players took on the role of the drug in the game, and “smashed” the blue cancer cells before they could reach the pink, healthy cells. Points were automatically tabulated for each cell “smashed,” and a high player score on the screen showed the score to beat.
THE RESULT: Grown adults flailing arms and legs to learn how the new drug works to kill cancer cells. Game debuted at the company Science Fair to such acclaim and positive feedback that the company began investigating developing the game into a mobile app.
